There are genuinely too many spells

Enough to make a caster main play a martial in a system that isnt pf2e

I merely wrote the names of the 1st-level spells.
(No need to write 0-level cantrips; I’m supposed to know all of 'em.)

NGL, I’ve been focusing more on choosing my 1st-level spells. I’m kinda confused whether I still only have three spells on my spellbook, or whether I get one extra. (That, and I’m curious whether I can get ā€œan extra 2nd-level spellā€ despite starting with none of them.) ((ā€œWhy should I get extra?ā€ Because Ability Modifiers and Bonus Spells Table.))

Ye. For now though, I’m effectively a PC that’s slightly better than a Level 1 NPC …also, I don’t know how long this campaign will be, but if will run for a while, then I’m considering the Magical Lineage trait for the 1st-level Shocking Grasp spell.

This is correct.

you get that when you get access to that level of spells normally

To clarify, I know I start with a spellbook with all cantrips and three 1st-level spells.

However:

My INT modifier is +2.
If I read this correctly, then I should be able to have five 1st-level spells in my spellbook.

Then there is also this:

Like… I won’t be able to cast any 2nd-level spells since I start with none, but theoretically I should be able to cast one if such were to exist in my spellbook.

Still. To my understanding, I should be able to cast three cantrips and two 1st-level spells per day. (…somehow, this feels underwhelming.)

i wonder how mid/late game combat would look like. coz u get so many actions per turn, and u’d normally require immediate feedback on what happened before u proceed. would we just like give arete instructions on what to do?

oh he meant select 3 cantrips i see

zone has 3 cantrips per day, i have infinite

Yeah. Magi’s gimmick is that they need to prepare spells at the start of each day.

My spellbook has all cantrips, and I get to choose five 1st-level spells. However, at SOD I need to choose which three cantrips and which two 1st-level spells I can use for that in-game day.

(actually i might be wrong here? the wiki says this but all the spellcasters on the wiki have lvl 0 spells have a small pool. hm)

misread, my original comment is right

Pretty sure it’s you pick 3 cantrips, but then can cast those cantrips an infinite number of times per day

I may be wrong and conflating this with modern spellcasters, but

…OOH. Cantrips are literally infinite-use.

It’s just that, while Sorcerer’s cantrips are set-in-stone once chosen, Magus’ cantrips are selected each SOD.

I thought I only get to use up to three cantrips per day. Using infinite-amount of pre-selected cantrips is so much better.

wiki says 3 per day on most classes i checked except sorc

i’m pretty sure this is wrong and just worded. badly. ā€œspells per dayā€ on sorc is used to refer to how many you can cast, but on other things it’s used to refer to how many you can store at start of day? although it might also be for everything else that’s the limit?

Not expended.
May be used again.
Ergo, infinite use.

The ā€œnumber of cantripsā€ represents the number of variety that Magi get to use per day.

E.g.,
SOD1 I choose cantrips A, B, C. (Three cantrips.)
At D1, I can use A, B, and/or C any number of times; not just three times.
