You know what lands he nominally controls! (see above, Iām not retyping it,)
Either is fine, but it will change the ~emphasis of what kind of information you get (and k(nobility) is in some sense more directly applicable)
I look annoyed that you took away the easy answer from me.

I continue after Lionel. āHis⦠land runs to the very edge of the forest to slightly north of Stetven river. He⦠married late⦠he conscripts aā¦ā
āā¦lot of troops. and he doesnāt really hear petitions well?ā
I accidentally lean to more⦠negative statements about the baron than I meant to.
āI know his land claims. I overheard sone rumors, among them one about him gathering a large number of troops and another about failing to upkeep roads. Not much else that seemed to be useful knowledge, but certainly enough to make speculation about the man.ā
Wanderer ponders.
āWas the late Messire Kaver looking into him for you?ā

youāve heard the basic rumors too and know more-or-less what land he controls, but not anything more specific
Wanderer will be gauging his reaction to this question.
Drakor shrugged. āJust rumors. My hometownās pretty isolated.ā
The baron nods in agreement at the various critical statements your characters made. āIndeed, indeed. Itās nasty business.ā
He pauses for a moment, taking a sip from his wine glass. āHe was, Wanderer. I have reason to believe Baron Dalin is hiding personal information that could be very damaging if it were to come out ā information that may imperil those who live within his lands ā though I donāt know all the details. Iām interested in sponsoring a party of reliable adventurers to determine what, exactly, heās hiding, and to make it known to our mutual liege-lord, exercising enough discretion that our lord doesnāt learn of my involvement. Of course, you can expect certain consideration in exchange.ā
well, he admitted it (you may sense motive if you believe he might be lying)
Drakor subconsciously leaned in.
(Studied target > baron)
(Iāll still do it but I want to get a vibe of his mentality in how he talks about it)

Canary⦠breathes a sigh in relief.
This has nothing to do with her. Nobody would want her for adventuring.
Youāre very confident that heās telling the truth about the fact that the late Messire Kaver was in his employ, and tasked with investigating the baron. You get the sense that he does sincerely regret Kaverās death, though under his current understanding of the circumstances he doesnāt feel particularly responsible.
ā¦You do get the sense that your group isnāt exactly the sort of people heād usually prefer for a task like this. He clearly respects your martial prowess, but Messire Kaver was a gentleman far more than a warrior, and he does seem to have some doubts about your ability to pull this off subtly (and, for that reason, is being more explicit about some aspects of what heās requesting than he usually would be).
āI did individually find out about what Kaver was doing and privately scheduled a private meeting to get in on it the same day he got into town, for whatever thatās worth regarding speaking to my competenceā¦or his.ā
