Your trip to Talloak is largely uneventful. You pass near a couple other villages (none directly on your route, but close enough to see them), but much of what you observe is more of the same — people planting, people bringing goods to other towns, and so on. It’s no surprise that the area immediately surrounding the baron’s manor house is largely peaceful, but as you get further away from it, it’s clear there was also a bit of luck involved.

You arrive at Talloak shortly before sunset, as people are starting to come in from the fields. It seems to be a bit smaller than Granite Hill, around a hundred and fifty people all told. The village itself is built around an enormous oak tree, more than a hundred feet tall, extending upwards into the sky and keeping the village’s central square cool and shaded. The village doesn’t exactly seem to have a proper palisade, but several bushes full of thorny plants surround the outside of the village, with only narrow gaps (large enough to easily allow a human to pass, and in the widest places even large enough to allow your wagon, but enough to inconvenience particularly large creatures, at least if they can’t fly).

Meanwhile:

Paprika, it’s around sunset when the travelers arrive. It’s a large group, six of them, and they don’t look particularly related to each other. More to the point, several of them look… rather familiar.

“You can give Zelsh’s old equipment to someone else in need.” Zelsh told the armorsmith as he gave him his old equipment.

“Thank you. I’ll see to it that it finds a good home.”

“You’re welcome.”

Once the journey began, Drakor slipped closer to Canary. “Would you like me to show you how to use that?” he asked. “You look rather uncomfortable.”

“I can’t. Really. Hold it. I-”

“-Had taken it for you because you hurt yourself in the armoury and I don’t think you really taken something you had more wanted.” She explains.

“…That’s a two-handed blade. Even I couldn’t swing one of those properly no matter how many draughts I’ve downed. Why do you have one?”

Zelsh was too busy looking in awe at the size of the oak in the middle of the village to say much.

Drakor blinked. “Oh. Uh.”

He seemed stunned.

Canary confusedly looks at him.

(yes I can gather why myself.)
