“No and no. I’m talking to Amelie tonight, as I’d like to see if she can put me in touch with the Lord-Mayor to meet tomorrow. It’ll give me more status to be referred there as a respected guest of a seemingly trusted associate of his than a random concerned citizen with no status.” Paprika fidgets with the ruffles in her dress as she speaks. Maybe I should give Canary means to hide a weapon. It’ll be hard with the cut of that dress… “And I’ll speak alone. I don’t want our entire group to flag as people investigating the baron if he’s not receptive.”
Drakor put up his mask. “You are certain there is no way that the conspirators could know where you are staying? You have said nothing that could give it away?”
(Pretend this is replying to the most recent post)
…I did mention that while taunting him.
“The guard, the one who knows who I am, has been in the Watch’s custody since his discovery. How would he even possibly conspire to attack me? Do you think they let him meet with random cultists?”
“You presume that he is the only person in the Watch who is involved.” Drakor put his hood up as well. “That very well may be true. It certainly was not the entire Watch, or else he would not have feared discovery.”
His eyes bored into Rika. “But are you willing to bet your life on that?”
“It’s not betting my life. It’s betting an inconvenience.” Paprika frowns at Drakor’s concern. “Don’t underestimate me.”
Drakor maintained eye contact. “I do not doubt your capabilities in a fight. It is your ability to defend yourself while you sleep that is my concern.”
He folded his arms. “I think we should take shifts standing guard tonight. If there are any conspirators left, they will be desperate, especially with so many of their companions arrested. They might attempt something risky to silence you.”
Canary looks down.
The edges of her pants are muddy and a little soggy, and her boots are rather dirty.
She looks embarrassed about this, given her environment, but doesn’t do anything, despite the fact that Prestidigitation would clearly get rid of it.
“Do what you want, I don’t care. It’s hardly possible to silence something that was shouted in the Temple of Abadar.” Paprika crosses her arms, with her right hand resting on her concealed sickle. “Canary, I have something else I need to measure for your dress. Could you come to our room with me?”
I silently walk behind her.
I don’t… trust that explaination.
Paprika closes the door behind her, then turns to Canary as soon as the room is sealed. “I’m modifying the dress so you can conceal a weapon or other tools on your person. Look, mine lets me hide the sickle, a wand, and the design makes this satchel relatively inconspicuous.” She demonstrates the various features of her dress. “What would you like to keep hidden?”
…Ah.
“I don’t… need to hide that much? It’s not really a… worry.” I try to shake her off. Again.
(Cough there’s this very nice spring blade you got cough)
(it’s a block of wood there’s zero point in hiding it)
“You have a weapon, you want to keep it on you, no?” Paprika frowns. “I saw you using a knife while you were fighting the boggards. Can I see how big it is so I can size the loops properly and make sure it stays under the skirt well? It’s a relatively close-fitting dress.”
I never actually used the knife.
Mm. “It’s. Hidden already.” I pull out the spring blade Drakor… traded? with me. “It kinda just looks like. Wood. And I don’t really…”
Need it, I trail off. I don’t want her to know that.
(Wait didn’t you)
(Yes. She did.)
Drakor walked back to his room and began to sleep.
(Once nightfall comes he’s going to stay up)
“It’d be weird to carry wood around if we’re going somewhere nice. I can make sure you have it on you at all times.” Paprika shrugs her shoulders slightly. It doesn’t seem like it’s actually her favored weapon, anyway. “Do you need anything else? Wands? A wallet? Anything you need can be easily accessible. It’s custom clothing, you may as well make the most of it.”
Give me something interesting to do.
I look at her really uncomfortable at the thought of making more work for her.
“I don’t… use wands. I can’t…”
A place for my pouch of coins would probably be the most ideal thing, but… I still don’t really want it.
