“BUGIBUGI, SON OF GUBIGUBI, NAME IS BUGIBUGI!” he replies
nods
(Yeah. Zelsh will likely wait for Yamyra’s answer as well before proceeding. Best to know what they’re up against after all.)
(The door to the pantry is closed.)
“The size of rats, sure. But they were standing up on their little legs, like tiny people , and their fur was purple, and one of them was on the ceiling .”
She gives you a weak smile. “Thank you! I don’t know what I’d do if I had to fight them on my own.” She rubs the back of her neck. “One of them threw a rock at me as I was leaving.”
Looking closely at the barn, it’s not hard to see why they’re interested in getting someone else to fix it. There’s a large hole in the wall on the south side of the barn, and the wood nearby is just about rotted. To make matters even worse, several of the wooden shingles seem to have come off at some point. There’s a small puddle of water near the hole at the south end, left over from the previous night’s rain.
((Arius has at least +2 on all Knowledge checks. Is the situation non-stressful enough that I can take 10 to have Arius know the race of the creatures we are facing, or would I have to roll a Knowledge check for that?))
(the maximum DC you can get on an untrained knowledge check (one where you have no ranks) is a 10, regardless of your modifiers)
(but you can still take 10 if you want)
(it’s DC 10 to identify this one, so you’re okay)
From her description, it sounds like she’s talking about grimples, hostile fey which tend to prey on humans. They have a bit of magic, which they mostly use to fuck with people as much as possible.
(you can’t take 10 in combat but it’s not combat yet)
(irl I have not so great of an idea how I would approach this, so would 4 people working on it for two hours with help of the mending cantrip be enough to plug up that hole, fix up the wood, and get the shingles back?)
(also how would we be adjudicating this)
(this implies it’s going to ever come out to combat with the grimples. i trust in arius’ negotiation skills with… hostile fey who prey on humans.)
“WE GO IN NOW!?”
(I imagine that wanderer’s survival would apply to a relatively basic task of ‘avoiding your shelter getting destroyed by wear and tear’)
Bugibugi barges in the pantry, unsheathing his hammer
(Arius and Zelsh are free to follow)
((Duly noted. Thank you for the information.))
“Hm… That sounds like grimples. Zelsh, Bugibugi, these creatures hate humans, so let me prepare for a moment before we enter the pantry.” ((I assume the pantry is where these gremlins are?))
Just before the two orc-bloods enter the pantry, Arius casts Shield on himself.
((Negotiation? Fuck no! We’re outright exterminating these mobs! These creatures are the equivalent of non-proliferating goblins or somewhat-smarter giant rats!))
(The barn weighs a whole lot more than 1 pound per caster level, and so do most of its components, so most of the work will need to be done by hand. You can definitely make it habitable with two hours work; whether you can make the family that owns the barn happy with you is another question. It looks like repairs are technically a Craft check, but I think in this case Survival or a relevant Profession skill would both be reasonable alternatives.)

The pantry is a little dim, but you can still make out four tiny scraggly fey perched throughout the room, blinking at you with beady eyes, save for one that’s hanging upside-down from the ceiling. They seem to have armed themselves with small pebbles. Throughout the room, the food is covered in some sort of horrible putrid slime — some of it might be fine, depending on whether any of the slime penetrated the storage barrels, but anything stored in an open container or even just a sack is unlikely to be the sort of thing anyone wants to eat.
