Theyâre not carrying standard-issue weaponry, they donât have any sort of insignia, theyâre standing ready for a fight with you⌠these guys are definitely bandits. Your best guess is that they think youâre a rich group, and are pitching their request accordingly; thereâs no way they try to demand a crown per head from everyone who passes through the area.

(can that fourth 3rd/4th/5th guy STOP ROLLING 20)
(I hate how high these random rolls are)
(if I choke down all my dex buffs SURELY)
Could Wanderer use Bluff to exaggerate that the group is strong, and thus that itâs beneficial for everyone involved that the standard rate is used instead of the evidently illegal shakedown thatâs happening?
can I also get another perception check, for no reason whatsoever,

As you approach the bridge, you spot something you didnât see previously: two halflings, standing in the middle of the bridge with sling staffs. As you get close, one of the halflings calls out your position to the humans, who swivel their heads towards you for a moment.
You can do so (to be clear, itâs an illegal shakedown either way! just, an illegal shakedown for a smaller amount of moneyâŚ)
He will do so. Itâs clear in how he comes off that he knows itâs illegal, but he believes that itâs fair to just pay the smaller toll to avoid aggravating them.

âI donât see why we should give these criminals anything,â says Nyna. âThey have no right to charge us tolls, and they should be grateful if we let them go with their lives.â
