He hesitates, just for a second. “Some armed men came to our village, after the planting had already started. They said our baron had been part of some kind of conspiracy, and if we all swore fealty to the man they worked for they’d graciously ‘pardon’ us for supporting him, just as long as we paid double taxes and gave up our fishing rights.” He looks down. “I’d have done it, too, to protect my head and my family’s, but some people didn’t see it that way, started fighting back. The soldiers put their houses to the torch, and the fire caught, and… well, at least everyone made it out alive. But we can’t exactly sleep under the stars.”

“I see. I can’t help much, but…”
He hands the man 30 bits.
“May Pulura, Mistress of the Stars, watch over you and your family in this difficult time.”
Canary backs off.
…You probably did what she was going to do.
Wanderer begins to walk back to the caravan, but stops.
“There are bandits about [gives rough location]. I’d avoid that crossing if you’re heading somewhere past there.”
He smiles weakly at you as he accepts your money. “Thank you. But — is there any work you’d like us to do for you, to repay your kindness? We’re hardworking folk, the lot of us."
Canary climbs back into the Caravan as Wanderer stops to give his closing remarks.
“Terrible business. We’ll stay away from them.”
@Squirrel2412 can I get a Constitution check from you for walking more than 8 hours in a day? (d20 + your con modifier)
He ponders.
“I do not need work done currently. So consider this: I’ll take you up on that if I ever see you again.”
“Of course. I hope we’ll be able to repay you someday.”
Wanderer gets the caravan moving again after waiting for everyone to get back on.
