[RP] Play-By-Post Pathfinder

“Uhm. We’re supposed to all answer, right?”

“I… uhm. Just don’t really want to let anyone down. I… don’t really know where I get the. Drive from. To do all this stuff. But. I don’t wanna refuse a request-” She’s alluding to the baron’s proposal. “-Because it would be rude… and it’s not like I have anything else to do.”

Surprisingly forthcoming.

…

She’s leaving out one thing intentionally. And one thing unintentionally.

Seeing the pair of reactions, a sense of relief slowly spreads inside Arius’ mind.

“I don’t recall any arrangements on who will take care of Tanna and Vin while you two are away, but I’ll see what I can do.”

He turns away, and before he walks outside, he murmurs: “May the gods watch over you.”

With his main concern dealt with, the mercenary heads toward the resting quarters he was assigned to.

((I assume this is where he meets up with the three four who are still awake?))

(I think so)

“There are people I need to protect.” Drakor replied. “And monsters I need to slay.”

(Can I sense motive this to parse the emotions behind this?)

Arius meets up with the others who are likely going to be his colleagues in the upcoming mission. While he is cheerful to see Drakor’s face, considering the events that transpired over the day, he really isn’t in the mood for anything beyond sleep.

He removes his armor and sleeps on any random available bed.

On the surface, Drakor is simply stating his purpose. Protect those he cares about, and kill the monsters that would threaten them. When he spoke of protection, he sounded distant. He was most likely thinking of specific people when he said that.

But when Drakor spoke of monsters, there was a tinge of that eerie calmness in his voice that you’ve heard before. As you think about it more, you come to understand that that flatness does not mark a lack of emotion, but itself signifies something.

Resolve, yes, but also… anger. No, more than anger.

Fury.

Wanderer lowers his head before sitting down.

“I see.”

There is no judgement. There is an understanding. He sees it like many of those who fight in the Worldwound.

Drakor shrugged, still lying on the cot with his eyes closed. “Who’s next?”

Canary looks at Lionel… given Arius’ imperative upon walking in was to immediately collapse on his bed.

“Hah. What does drive me nowadays? I lost my position, I lost much of my monetary wealth. Alchemy was meant to be a way for me to make money. And yet here I am, pouncing on an opportunity to maybe get that old fame back.”

“…And you know what? Maybe I am somewhat vengeful towards the Baron. I can’t deny it. In law, you need to keep your emotions out of your work to make the most logical judgment. But seeing two families being torn apart in just one fell swoop… it makes my heart bleed.”

“…”

“Could I ask…What work you used to do for the baron?”

There’s a feeling of odd intent.

“As it happens, I was once a magistrate, not unlike the late Messire Kaver. Unlike him, however, I prefered to take on defense cases.”

“…”

And what Lionel just said… lends a lot of credence to it.

I bite my nails.

“Uhm.”

Canary turns towards a sleeping Arius.

Then back to the group. “Is there anything else we needed to discuss?”

“I do not wish to make a judgement on the necessity of a particular course of action.”

He pauses.

“I do believe that I have nothing more I wish to say at the moment.”
