Seeing that you’re standing your ground rather than trying to flee, Rafau switches tactics, lunging at Drakor with a powerful blow. But given how nervous he still is from Zelsh’s threats, Drakor is able to take advantage of his focus on self-defense to deflect the blow with his dueling dagger.

Meanwhile, back at the Watch’s headquarters, Valtyr returns a few minutes later.

“Apparently whoever it was left a note tied to the fence Starday night,” he says, pointing at the fence surrounding the headquarters. “Er, it might’ve been Sunday by the time they left it. I dunno why they did it like that, you’d think it would be easier to just show up with a report. Supposedly whoever left it was really worried about the man leading the cult.”

From the “supposedly”, and his tone of voice, it doesn’t sound like he’s personally reviewed the note.

Canary winces at the pulsing pain in her legs as she continues, a likely result of unusually long periods of walking and standing after a decade of being hardly mobile.

oh! whoops, sorry, I missed your post, thanks for bumping it

(don’t worry I wasn’t sat here thinking you had abandoned my solo story because the fight was much more entertaining.)

(…)

(sniff.)

((it’s all good I’ve done it more than I can count))

It doesn’t take long for you to make your way to the same Caydenite “tavern” run out of some guy’s house that you heard about from Wanderer yesterday. Enough people are still at work that it’s not overcrowded, but it seems to be a reasonably lively establishment; besides the people who are just chatting, there’s someone juggling painted wooden rings, a pair of men competing to see who can hold a large weight out in front of them for longer, and a couple of groups playing different card games. The bartender is currently giving someone advice in a hushed voice, but he takes a brief break to refill a customer’s mug when requested.

(the temptation to screw this person over with mage hand is unreal)

I take a deep breath… and begin to scour a place I can join in.
Because it. Is. For. Them. So. I. Have. To.

(Is anyone flanking rn?)

(not currently, you could 5-foot-step one square right and then you would be flanking)

“Hm.” Rika grinned with a satisfied air. “And yet they didn’t provide any additional information about him at all. Sounds to me like that anonymous tip-leaver was deeply involved with the case. Hey, where’s your co-worker?”

The card-players would probably be happy to let you play cards with them! (Especially if you’re bad at cards — they’re gambling for money.)

Apart from that, there’s a woman drinking alone in the corner, where at least you wouldn’t be interrupting anything, and a group of people with a couple open chairs swapping stories who don’t seem to know each other particularly well (and thus might accept a stranger joining in).

“With your friends. The half-orc, and the… other half-orc.”

(I’ll do that, then power attack with my warhammer)

Drakor snorted. “Not so confident now, are you?”

(Hey, don’t forget Wanderer, the other other half orc!)

I awkwardly shuffle into a place at a table that I think is playing the simplest game.

Considering my attire, my hair, my… everything… I couldn’t look more out of place. Or. New.

I just hope the fact they see me as a chest full of gold works more to get them to… speak.
