This round, the gossip mostly seems to consist of speculating that it was totally the drunk guyās fault that he got fired. You get the impression that both of the two remaining players had already thought that this was true, but didnāt want to say it while he was still around.
Once again, Scar Guy wins. He looks a little embarrassed at the pile of copper bits heās started to accumulate.
I drop one of my cards, and awkwardly pick it up in the middle of the round.
āHow about you?ā says Kerchief Woman awkwardly to Canary. āWhat have you been up to?ā
āUhm.ā
The drunk man leaving meant my buffer was gone. Threeās a crowd.
What impresses⦠people in a tavern⦠I should be trying to impress, right? Or sound normal, orā¦
"I walked four hours⦠to a neighbouring village because I was concerned for a child who was here shopping but lived there. Today. " Words come tumbling out of my mouth. I shouldāve practised this line. People ask about it. Always.
Scar Guy whistles.
āSounds like a lot of walking,ā says Kerchief woman.
āMy legs hurt.ā I begin to buckle over the table as I recall that fact, but manage to keep my posture normal.
āWell, sit back down, then!ā says Scar Guy. āYou know, if you want a drink, the prices here are very fair.ā
From his tone, itās obvious that heās suggesting that you purchase and consume an alcoholic beverage, not saying that you could buy some water or something.
Canary unconsciously pulls a face.
She reaches for the cards to deal.

I donāt think I⦠really have an opportunity now. I sorta missed it. And I. Probably shouldnāt be wasting this much time over nothing. Everyone else will be doing so much more and Iāll be incredibly selfish.
Itās close, but once again, Scar Guy manages to take home the hand. Youāre starting to pick up on his skills a bit more; heās not a particularly exceptional liar, but he seems to be pretty decent at reading the other people here, even if you can fool him more often than not. And he keeps drawing good cards ā maybe heās just lucky, or maybe he really was cheating.
With a conflicted expression, I mull leaving right now over.
(meanwhile, two half orcs and a (probably corrupt or something) town guard walk into a dark alleyā¦)
