(actually wait i don’t roll bluff here do i)

(This isn’t “tell if she is lying”, to be clear, this is “figure out why she is lying”. If she is also hiding why she is lying this is presumably also bluff but not if she is not)

[Well… she’s really stubborn about this for some reason. Pushing her further and further without an actual silver bullet isn’t going to get you anywhere. She can deny everything you say and refuse to budge forever.]

[…Or you could stop trying to ‘convince’ her to tell you.]

[She probably has some sort of weirdness going on, but it’s hard to tell exactly what. Whatever spells you’re nearly certain she’s used are mostly global.]

(Paprika is now doing character development and not [intentionally neglecting to make Sense Motive or Perception checks because she’s already decided what she’s doing])

(Specifically Paprika is wondering if revealing more about herself would prompt Canary to share more, does she have a good guess on that)

[She might lie about a specific thing she can do that you might be able to push out as a possibility if you talk more about what you’re capable of, depending how well she’s thought it through: or knows of it more than you do.]

“We don’t… need to talk about this,” Paprika says awkwardly, like she’s forcing it out of herself. “I’ve already-” proven this to my goddess’s satisfaction, probably not a good thing to say.

“I don’t usually tell people about my abilities either. My goddess-” she pauses. “…isn’t Pharasma. My powers are nothing like those that she grants. When I’ve finished my book, I intend to burn it to send it… down… to her.”

“It’s not illegal to worship her,” she hastily clarifies.

I tilt my head. “…Okay.”

…She looks uncomfortable. I should probably… be nice about it. “It’s… okay to be. What you are. You don’t need to hide it- uhm. From at least. Me. I don’t… have anyone to tell, and you’re… not evil. And if you were I… probably wouldn’t say anything anyway.” I really hope this doesn’t sound patronising. It feels patronising. I just… don’t really know what to say.

…

[It makes her walk a thin line from not thinking she’s embarrassing herself by making herself out as useless beside deduction, and not revealing so much that it’s obvious that’s not what she is. She’s more likely to lean more into her own guesses about what an individual with that skillset does in hopes you don’t understand her, or the thing, well enough, which would create a greater advantage for you than the alternative.]

Paprika picks her sewing back up.

“If Drakor is right.” She pauses like she’s just said a full sentence.

“And we do get attacked. I don’t want you to hide your abilities.”

“It’s dangerous.”

“I’ve shown things I wouldn’t usually. I don’t know why you hide things. But it’s better for all of us if you can defend yourself.”
