“I- can defend myself. I’m not a liability.” Think. What would I be… “I have… the capability of being… a bit sneaky, and I have… good eyes. I can see attacks coming from a while away. And I’m smart enough to avoid situations where I’m the main attacking target. And I’m good at avoiding combat entirely! Not many people really want to attack me. I can talk through that a lot…”

[Most of what she said is mostly true, or rather, she thinks to be true, however…]
[…You’ve never seen her profess a relevant skill in eyesight, in-fact, her eyesight is remarkably poor. It’s obvious to you that she’s lying, and you also have an actual sense of how to pry that fact out of her: when she reads, she constantly moves her book around to try and get a good sense of it, regularly very close and then very far. Meaning-]
[She’s nearsighted in one eye, and farsighted in another eye, something that would make her almost useless as what she’s describing to be. Combined that with the fact she never mentioned an ability for disarming traps, or even lockpicking, and that look in her eyes, you have enough to get under her skin a good bit, and remove a lot of plausible deniability. She’d have to claim she sucks as what she’s describing, something she’s not comfortable with doing.]
I know her eyesight isn’t good. I could confront her with that, and tell her that’s all it takes for the deduction to be trivial. But I…
“If you need. Glasses. To improve your eyes. For reading, or anything else. I know a man who can make them.”
Paprika looked down at her sewing again.
She thought about page 66 of her book, where she made a similar deduction to determine the woman working at a fabric store was a sorceress with an Abyssal bloodline. There wasn’t really any reason to reveal it loudly. Next time she went there, she didn’t see the woman, and she got overcharged for her fabric. It’s not like it’s a crime, but…

“Nobody else I know is… like me. Not anyone I’ve gotten along with. I’ve never told anybody as much as you know. I’ve never showed anyone that book except my goddess.”
Paprika paused.
“If you want to… figure out what I am, you can. I know you don’t think I’m a cleric. I do get my power from a goddess. I wasn’t trying to deceive you.”
It’s not like it’s easy to find resources on the spells a Witch can cast, nor those of a cleric of my goddess. I don’t know for sure one way or the other.
But if I were deducing someone else’s class, I don’t think I’d believe they were a cleric.
“…Remember. I’ll show you when I get it.” I really hope it isn’t that bad. “…Some of the books tended to say some. Bad things. That I’m pretty sure aren’t true. I tried to get one that would actually tell me a little without being meaninglessly rude, but…” I hope she doesn’t think I’m weird for this.
