ok that’s ~the exact opposite track I was on; though it shakes out to different levels i think.
The reasoning that I was thinking was that it overprojects confidence into the thread, which is typically more of a town trait since scum is more concerned about the inevitable drop-off.
At the risk of getting into my own sense of aesthetics in order to overdissect an early post (which typically doesn’t go well), I do think the (incorrect, I might add) princess bride quote is just aura without anything to back it up, in a sense? The more obvious side of this criticism is that the post has nothing to do with the mafia game, which strikes me as. wrong. Mafia is about spinning this web, so to speak, as either alignment, so to start with somebody completely detached it’s, again, wrong. As for why this post in particular caught my ire… I mean i do get the hype and so the contrast with expectations plays into it? As I get more into this i struggle to find it natural though. Why would it be natural to go into a mafia game, and then post an unrelated line from a movie?
If you want to buff the accusation of it being forced, which is steelmanning any sort of point I might’ve had, T3 comes in and sees openers from everybody else that are relatively towny, wants to match the energy but is more concerned about not being able to match the energy later & goes for a non-value post. This narrative is slightly helped by his quick departure afterwards
tl;dr it’s fluff in the purest sense.
Now haflway through explaining it out like this, it does seem to be a playstyle difference.
sorry for long-posting i’ll try to restrain myself
