A variation I was thinking about would be to have a set number of phases and keep all teams until the end and then total up their scores and see who had the fewest rounds overall. That way everyone could play the whole time and we could also see if there might be a comeback later.
Wooden stake & Inject â stab is also a good example of this one
I also think this is what team teal did a good job at avoiding and it sort of annoyed me to not be able to say this in the thread because I didnât want to influence strategy too much but I think avoiding this pitfall was why they performed the way they did and not word rng
I canât believe Arete won this game by themselves
Yeah
Vulgard was an alt for Arete smh
i think what litten did by throwing a round to make the next round easier (with âorâ) is a good concept
âorâ just sucked as a choice in particular, where words like big, small, opposite, etc. tend to work significantly better
I actually wasnât sure that âorâ should be allowed since it wasnât technically related to either word other than âorâ being within âdoorâ. Otherwise, yeah, people might start doing a strategy of using a throw-away word so that the focus can be on a single word next round instead of the combo of 2.
I was trying not to do that because I wasnât sure if it was allowed or not
âŚalthough I did sort of do it by accident a couple times, like I submitted âbusâ as an answer thinking about the vehicle and then a couple minutes later I was like âWAIT THATâS ALSO A MAFIA TERMâ
I figured it was allowed if they were related
That said door and or have the same lettersso I consider them related
door and or even sound similar :â)
like âorâ you can reasonably argue that it is related since itâs apart of door
but if you were to put dicey dungeons for that quesTion I figured marshAl would smack you if you couldnât explain yourself
yeah this is what fucked us over
I tried deliberately to stick to hyper specific things that would be easy to make words with (such as Olympics) but when I picked mjolnir and it didnât count we were just fucked
Actually this is a good example of what Marshal was talking about. âOlympicsâ was clever but âonly focused on the one word âAthleteâ and didnât really account for âNewâ. We were both already thinking âRookieâ would fit perfect when combining those 2 words, and thatâs what Nutella picked.
As for Mjolnir, I take it you havenât watched the Marvel movies since you seemed confused by âWorthyâ. Though âWeaponâ was still a good choice and one I had also thought about before thinking âWorthyâ was even better.
That being said, Iâm glad I was helping to host instead of playing. I was imagining how badly I would do.
I was completely amazed by some of the words people came up with. Like when you had âMileâ and âRepresentâ, I was wondering what in the world you could do for that. When Nutella said âOdometerâ I thought, wow, thatâs brilliant! And even your âUnited Statesâ was great because they use miles and thereâs the House of Representatives. I hadnât even considered either.
someone mentioned earlier that making this a competition made it seem less fun
I agree
two rounds were ended early which wouldnât have been the case if people joined just to match words
I understand why Arctic didnât want to continue but itâs disappointing that even if we lost that means itâs âa waste of timeâ trying to continue
Yeah, thatâs part of why I think doing an overall score from everyone competing in all phases and then final ranking might be a good change rather than the successive eliminations
So like this instead
Oh, another idea I had concerned the starting words. As a compromise between picking your own words (which might be unfair) and being given random words, maybe have each partner get 2 or 3 random words from which they choose their own starting word.
So like partner A might be given âthreadâ, âsweetâ, and âangerâ and choose âangerâ and partner B might get âquietâ, âbanishâ, and âcapâ and choose âcapâ. Then their 1st round words are âangerâ and âcapâ. That way they at least each have their individual influence over the 1st words.
