this setup in particular feels likely to run into being easily mech-solvable, but in a way that i can’t quite wrap my head around instantly
ive just recently noticed how old i am
doesn’t time go fast?
(joke answer) I was referred by katze
(more serious answer) I don’t remember why in particular I joined but it’s probably a combination of
- FoL is just one of the mafiasitesTM & I like mafia but MU can be more of an investment & such to play, AoPS is a special creature & I didn’t really click with the syndicate
- Generally younger demographics compared to MU
I also don’t know where I gained any of this information about FoL realistically it was probably a spec chat somewhere but I like to think i was born knowing about FoL
i’ve got to say i’m disappointed
if i could sleep for fifty years i would; i’m just mostly interesting it humanity’s progress than anything else
and yet it seems we’ve been in a standstill for a good few years now
What the fuck is quizbowl
it’s trivia but not really
yea it feels like it should be more easily breakable but it isn’t.
I mean like. it’s weird because you kinda just have to ~throw in the other game if you’re mafia in one.
yea but hat’s not a mech-solve issue that’s a wincon issue
im typing up an experinec with a review that reminded me of thjis
I think the setup loses its charm if you make it into there just being 2 wolves but you have to figure out which day to hang each one on
you could maybe un-force the w/w check & then make it a merlin “guess who has the redcheck” thing (doesnt’ work on self-rands)
I don’t know if this actually has any significant interplay between the threads though?
How old are you?
i remember reviewing a Zone game (i believe it turned into the canned Stratagem-17 FM) in which there was 2 Inventor PRs, but every VT thought they were an Inventor (but their items didn’t actually work, etc) and Mafia gave out harmful versions of the items
it took me a sec but i realized that the Mafia version of the “Binoculars” item (which told you 1 random player who visited your target) gave false feedback, but the Quack (VT) version didn’t give any, it became easy to swiftly dome the Mafia members through the following scheme:
- make every player give the Binoculars to the player above them on N1
(you can also assign a desiganted order if you want to dome people with widely townread people, but that’s extra effort) - every player uses the Binoculars they were given N2 on the player below them
- every player with a real binoculars learns that no one visited their target; every player with quack binoculars learns nothing, and every player with Mafia binoculars learns a completely random player visited their target.
- you can trace back the Mafia binoculars to the player below you, because you learned something only the Mafia binoculars could have told you
thus, on Day 3, you have a free 1f1 for each mafia member
Mafia can theoretically fuck with this by visitng someone who got checked by the real binoculars, or by claiming that THEY got a mafia binoculars, but this is ~equivalent to cc’ing the cop who has a redcheck on you, since in effect you’re claiming that the PR is Mafia. while a valid strategy, Day 3 is too early in an 11p to really give you a chance (especially if you use a designated order to match people with widely townread people n shit), since you’d have to win both domes in order to win
a lot of elements in the setup came together to be this way; if a single one of them was changed, it wouldn’t have worked (if the items were different and/or always silent, it wouldn’t have worked; if the quack inventors didn’t deliver their items at all, it wouldn’t have worked; if the mafia’s items didn’t provide exclusively false feedback, it wouldn’t have worked, etc)
i spotted it shockingly fast tbh, but it was complicated as fuck to explain so I argued with zone over it for like 100 posts before eventualy settling on what was effectively a number of bandaid fixes, what you see in the setup today if you search it
extras
i didn’t talk about it here, but the Green Potion item was originally a doctor from tprs, and a poisoner from mafia. you could probably do the same strategy with the Green Potion, but since it provides mafia with extra KP it’s not as viable, and you can’t multitask items and giving out items, so you couldn’t repeat the strategy D4 for a ~guranteed solve either
oh yea no totally
oh i kinda like that
especially since it was literally my 1st or 2nd review
ok im gonna be honest, in terms of “humanity’s progress” we are in an era on the verge of what might be the biggest invention in human history, that being generative artificial intelligence.
It’s a big unknown where that is going to go but we are maybe two decades away from AI drastically, drastically changing the world as we know it somehow. We are now what the people who used the internet to post on forums about airplane design were then. Nobody there could envision tiktok or netflix or anything of the sorts. We’re in the “can’t envision” phase of AI right now. We know it’s gonna be something but not what or how. But it’s certainly an extremely interesting era of human progress imo
