yeah they really do. it was a fucking NIGHTMARE. -100000/10 cannot recommend would not wish on my worst enemy. i am being absolutely serious when i say i felt like the world/big food was trying to poison me for years. incredibly stressful and miserable to deal with lol

also! fun bonus fact! when i found a way to treat it, i came to realize that i had actually probably spent a LOT more than i had realized of those four and change years in ongoing low level reactions. like had spent a lot of the past some years just in lowish level brain fog type shit. fun!!!

there was definitely points in time where i chose to eat stuff i knew would trigger a reaction, esp in intersection with some of the other shit going on in my life that overlapped heavily with those years. like i can’t say enough that i do not advise eating things you are allergic to (especially when you once had a reaction that involved you feeling like you had to manually consciously swallow your saliva for a week) but i was just… deeply exhausted by it all

(and all the stuff i described wasn’t even really getting into the worst part of it, which was an about four and a half month window at the end where after a couple of months’ ramping leadup it had escalated so much that i could tolerate like a single digit number of items at any given time. and that list kept changing because a lot of them kept just… stopping working. like half my caloric intake for most of that was sweet potatoes and the oil i baked them with (i did have usable seasoning thank god). i was worried about shit like getting enough of all the right nutrients. i was worried i would run out of things i could eat from a grocery store!! i had to drink specific fancy water in they sold in glass bottles!) (and it was still so much better than reacting that i completely had absolutely zero interest in doing anything dumb anymore lol)

being able to treat it and eat normally was an absolute fucking miracle and genuinely completely life altering

also i learned consistently that almost nobody actually fucking understands just how much shit corn is in even when they recognize that its in a lot of shit lol, like most people hear that and they think, like, wow there’s like cornstarch and that sort of thing in a lot of shit, and yes thats true but somehow not even scratching the surface lol

the whole experience left me deeply angry about like. a number of things, really, including the severe lack of knowledge about this (moreso among like. people who in some way this causes to give harmful misinformation. food producers. doctors. etc. i obviously don’t blame layppl who have never had experience with this for not knowing this shit. how would they without ever having a reason to look for it), the commonality of corn products being viewed as a “hypoallergenic” or “allergy friendly” option for stuff (lmao), and the absolute joke that is food labeling requirements

on top of all the ingredients that can directly hide shit which is frankly already dumb to be allowed in itself, did you know that they can, for example, dust molds for forming food into its shape with cornstarch and they don’t have to label it cause its a Processing Aid. processing aid my ass it touched the food it can obviously fucking get into the food.

they don’t have to label it because if you’re allergic to corn they figure you’re already dead in the ground or something

What I’ve learned is that life would suck way more if I had food allergies.

yeah that’s unfathomable. I have a friend going through something somewhat similar irl, idk exactly what it is but it sounds like a lot of things and/or hard to pin down for her, which I know has caused her a lot of pain. I can only imagine how draining that is both physically and psychologically, as you alluded to. sorry about all that broski

tw more explicit ed clinic

she’s in an inpatient clinic rn to learn to trust food more again and while its sad cuz shes my only friend who lives in town I’m happy she’s taking the steps to build herself back up.

wouldn’t a lease here be an inherently better plan than buying it outright? you can get like 80 years of leases before paying full price for it is the better option, and you’ll be dead by then

i understand there’s some legalese nonsense that you can avoid otherwise and you might miss a few years cause someone comes in better but

you know it occurs to me that i don’t understand how domain ownership works

i thought it was you pay for it over the course of 36 months, paying that much not paying an installment every 36 months
