One of my players was playing an intelligent character but the player did not know how to play poker
They asked me how a smart character would play it and I gave them advice
It undeniably broke all the tension but it was warranted because later scenes had more poker
But what if I wasnât the DM
Could I expect a DM to always be writing from what they know
Itâs annoying innit
I am being pedantic as fuck
thatâs a manipulate action
Reddit thread go
Ok I see it now
Brain exploding type realization on how narrative itself bends towards fantastical abstractions where you always have a big red button to push when things donât work great
U guys are all nerds. Unlike me
DAGGERHEART MY BELOVEDDD HOPE AND FEAR IS SO COOL
WHY IS IT LONG
yeah its a big struggle tbh
esp for me when like, other players/characters are Doing Something Wrong, and I know this as a player but my character arguably wouldnt be smart enough to knoe this so i try to sjt back and do nothing bc thats what my character would do but also i want to solve the puzzle
Too much aura.
My adhd assesment is in t-8 hours
I am slightly nervous but weâll see how it goes
i hope you pass!!
the real message of better call saul is that public attorney work pays nothing
Technically, itâs that it pays nothing but is deeply fulfilling to help the people who most need it (see Kim Wexler in S4 and S5 and also post-timeskip).
i literally just started watching it
Atlas accidentally hitting the âAsh hyperfixationâ button.
the real message of Better Call Saul is maybe leave that head alone if youâre a near honor student
I know this isnât exactly the same but the GM accidentally revealed parts of the module to me on Foundry like in the known characters section, there was a list of several NPCs. One of their names gave away what felt like a spoiler but I just assumed it was going to be revealed early on in the session because why else would I be able to see it? I clicked the entry for the NPC we were planning on meeting up with that session expecting to see like very basic information that would refresh my memory as to what we knew thus far, skimmed, saw something that made me realize simultaneously that I was not supposed to be reading it and almost positive that this guy was going to betray the party at some point. I immediately tell the GM who removes that stuff from my view, and I said I would do my best to pretend I saw nothing.
So, we go talk to him and hear this job, and itâs agonizing because itâs such a bad offer. Like itâs hilariously easy to double cross us in the proposed arrangement, and I decide that my paranoid af character can reasonably point this out, but try to leverage it for like some payment in advance or whatever instead of just telling the other players like âthis guy is absolutely going to betray usâ. I think I mention it once more in character that weâre taking some risks here because it feels justifiable for my character to do so, but that was all I allowed my character or myself to do. No one seriously considered a betrayal. It was driving me insane for weeks. We absolutely got betrayed and I just had to let it happen. We managed to escape with something, but in many ways finished the arc in worse shape than we went into it.
Afterwards I was finally able to talk about the whole situation and the party (with a single exception) thought that was the right thing to do, but it sucked so fucking bad. The other spoiler I got ended up being fine because another player figured it out and had actively pressured my character into believing it was true and there were like two signs yadda yadda, so I eventually was able to engage with that part of the arc in a satisfying way.
