okay. I’ve went to chess.com and started to play for a couple days. 1800 rapid is kinda where I am at rn. I think unlike most other players in this rating I have a really big advantage in tactic/not missing things/playing things really fast accurately enough because I played bullet absently mindly for a year or two

My guilty pleasure right now is the Dutch defense and sometimes the modern defense. I don’t think any opening can net me a loss as fast as those openings because I don’t know what I’m doing but astehtically they look so pleasing

The main struggle is I looked a little at how to play the Dutch defense, and, what I noticed from actually playing it is your oppponets absolutely do not fucking know how to play against the Dutch defense. They will be playing bad or random ish looking moves, like you are 750 again. And because of how counter intuitive the opening is, you have to relearn how to punish these because you aren’t developing in a traditional sense. At least this is my take on my experince so far

I don’t think this is really a reddit thing, and is more broadly applicable to society. It’s similar to conspiratorial thinking in that almost everyone can fall into it without entirely realizing it while simultaneously likely believing they’re not doing so. I feel like it’s something we all need to be aware of and thoughtful about to catch ourselves when we’re thoughtlessly enjoying the suffering of another human being who we’ve merely been told deserves it.

Like it’s an instinct that exists within everybody, but it is indulged so openly on Reddit in a way that makes me really upset. There are so many subreddits entirely dedicated to revenge.
I’m sure I’d probably encounter something similarly evil if I looked through unfiltered YouTube Shorts or Instagram Reels or Twitter or whatever, but it’s usually a different flavor of evil. The Reddit-revenge thing really gets me because it’s a personal pet peeve
