i would appreciate 2-3’s foreshadowing if they actually brought it up after the fact instead of effectively retroactively contextualizing it as “monokuma chose the murderer and the victim get fucked ibuki”
I mean thats like lowkey fair but also not something I personally take issue with
its not like the other motives have ever been exactly 100% fair to everybody anyways
in fact lowkey I forgot the motive for 2-2 entirely until now and i do think that tie-in was pretty meh actually but it certainly wasn’t a completely even application of the effectiveness of the motive LOL
the remembering disease would make more sense if mikan was shown to be forgetful at any point. but she’s really not. if anything her memory proves vital in both of the first two cases. monokuma couldn’t even be assed to play along with the rules of his own motive. and it’s not like they couldn’t have written mikan to be a killer without bringing her memories back, there was something there. that case is really just missed opportunity after missed opportunity
i mean yes monokuma blatantly cheating is the point. but come on he wasn’t even trying to hide it that time
I wish I had Hajime’s memory to remember a footage I saw in the heat of the moment and tell at that exact moment there was actually not in fact smidges of blood on the stepladder.
I actually think making her a killer by bringing her memories back is in fact one of the more compelling aspects of the case and I think it would be a missed opportunity to not do that. Would prefer they accomplish it in some other manner than the disease but like fundamentally this is Fine TM and I think everything else about the case was just a fun time so I’m very willing to be charitable to the motive being kinda wonky.
like especially after having just gotten through 2-2
Personally I loved that touch, though in retrospect she isn’t playing the despair villain quite well in trying to argue for her innocence. “Remember that logo on Ibuki’s bag? Ta daa~! You don’t remember, but I do, don’t worry about it.” … Girl???
2.5 is optional, don’t need to watch but rather explains 3
3 is i guess technically optional for v3, and so is udg. 3 spoils udg, so it’s udg → v3. i watched 3, didn’t play udg, it was fine.
3’s plot writing is… not great as usual (or arguably worse) but there were some moments that were kinda cool, a lot that went wonk
v3 spoils everything upon boot up.
silviu’s sending me the lyrics to “creep” by radiohead but replacing the lines to be about cooking instead of social incompetence
fire
alone can save our clan
this is what ive heard lol
what a decision btw
anyways here’s a quick gun-to-head character tier list of what i just played (DR2) and what I remember from DR1
i have literally no idea what fan consensus is on most of these so lmk if any of these are particularly hot takes
i imagine my F tier at least is probably pretty non-controversial lol
if i thought about it more rather than just shooting from the hip I’d probably change some things (Nagito feels too high, I feel like I liked Byakuya more at the time so he might be too low, I might have Junko too low, etc.) but it’s like broadly in the correct direction
you might be the only gundham hater in all the land
really?
would not have expected that
most of these characters are a bit kooky at the best of times but he really dialed that up to like a sixteen or seventeen out of ten even by DR standards
plus (spoilers regarding whether or not he lives through the game) i found his motive to do all of that to be particularly weak and very much did not appreciate the game trying to whitewash his legacy for no good reason while never even bothering to take the low-hanging fruit of “I don’t think we can prove Nekomaru hadn’t already died anyways”
