(We’r eputting a token amount of grenadine in the spritzes to satisfy the acronym)
Earlier this week my roommate was asking her boyfriend of three years how much she owes him for a sandwich. And obviously he said don’t worry, he said he’d bought her something earlier so it’s even. But it’s odd to me to be making life & career plans around somebody (she is) but also to be even close to the realm of accounting a sandwich. Am I weird? Is she weird? Are we both normal in opposite directions?
i think it’s a <rand action but i find it cute so cute weird maybe rather than eek weird
To me having “shared interests” is, like, the most core fundamental thing about having a partner, so I just find it kind of weird to track exact money amounts. Normal to try to generally be spending the same amount, but weird to care about a single sandwich rather than “in sum total I spend way more than you, can we even that out”
my guess is the habit is formed in childhood, likely nurture not nature; desire to be utmost polite, feeling shy about bothering people, maybe a little anxiety
assumption is that only she offers to do that and doesnt ask/expect the boyfriend to offer the same
if she expects the boyfriend to also do that then it’s a bit more odd to me yeah but this is more rare i think
Yea it is kind of fundamentally her personality. Back when my old roommate was doing the accounting we were very loose with everything, she actually couldn’t afford more than $100/month in groceries so we just let her pay that and made up the rest ourselves, we tallied like once every five months lol. Now that she does the accounting she’s very precise about everything, careful that non-shared groceries don’t go on the shared bill, tallying more frequently, etc.
Might just be relative abilities to be casual with money b/c upbringing
She only shops sales for groceries. NOT my thing at all. My family was very “sales are just attempts to convince you to buy things you don’t need”

Hmmm
i also only shop sales and i stock up on a lot and i feel happy about being efficient and my mom is distraught. but like. if we already eat a product often, and i see it 40% off, why don’t i buy 10, it’s a no-brainer. chocolate spread for two months
I’m fine with shopping sales for nonperishable groceries that just come in a box, but I do NOT like her habit of buying on-sale meat, vegetables, etc. because they’ve just been consistently lower quality
I’ve been buying chuck roast from this store for a year and both times I’ve bought it on sale it’s gone bad immediately. Never gone bad otherwise
hmm yeah perishable stuff on sale is because its about to spoil. i dunno why they put non-perishable stuff on sale from time to time then, whats their business. still makes a profit? do u know @Ash
rotisserie chicken (bought from the supermarket) is inherently a chicken thats close to spoiling btw. they don’t use fresh chickens that can last for a long time for that, they only use chicken that are about to spoil (to be more efficient). (not that its a bad thing, its efficient, im just saying)
Clearance sale stuff is because they got too much of it and they want it to go fast. We got BTS Oreos on clearance
They may also just view their current price as being too high (total profit is profit x demand, so a cost reduction framed as a sale could increase demand enough to more than offset the lower unit profit).
People who shop sales buy things they wouldn’t otherwise because it says Sale
Is a marketing thing
She’s eating her flesh!
Unrelated, but I keep forgetting that atlas is a woman and thus being slightly surprised by the (she/her) by her name
thanks neon. I needed this confidence in my gender identity in my life.
