general PSA: after seeing the Perception rules play out in practice, I am adjusting them a bit, primarily w.r.t. how they interact with distance but also to clarify how they interact with ‘spotting people who are not hiding at all, if they are at a distance’. These are modified from someone else’s houserules, so they’re not totally untested, but if they start Causing Problems we can go back to the old rules.

Visual Perception:
Spotting a person at 40 Feet: Stealth Result
Spotting a person at 40 Feet who isn’t stealthing at all: Stealth result if they somehow rolled a 0 on their d20
Doubling or halving the distance: + 4 or -4 (Noticing someone in melee is a DC: -12+Stealth)
Moving down or up a size category: +4 or -4
Looking through a Keyhole: +10 to Stealth Result
Noticing someone invisible or with total cover: +20 to Stealth Result
Noticing someone while you are asleep: -10 to Perception Check (this is equivalent to them getting a +10 on their Stealth check)
Noticing someone while you are distracted: -5 to Perception Check
ACP: Applies as usual
Sniping: Still -20 to stealth

Auditory Perception:
Hearing People talking at a normal volume from 40 feet away: DC 11 (60 Decibels)
Doubling or halving the distance: + 4 or -4
Volume: +/- 2/3 per decibel change
Silence: Silence applies +20 to DC for Auditory Perception and a +2 bonus to flat ‘visual’ perception

the big change here is that rather than the Stealth result setting the Perception DC to spot someone who is 0 feet away, with DC increasing at +1 per 10 feet, it is now the DC to spot someone who is 40 feet away, with DC increasing by +4 if the distance doubles and decreasing by -4 if the distance is halved

[and then obviously various other factors might affect this, like “it’s night” or “it’s pouring rain” or “they are on the other side of a solid wall such that you literally have no way to see them”]

Paprika’s name is based off the fact that my girlfriend and I abbreviate “paprika” as “rika” in like normal conversation

Meanwhile, “paprika” in Dutch:

You are one ‘s’ away from saying “mussel” in Dutch.

Welp. I’m about to lift-off.
