[RP] Play-By-Post Pathfinder

Arius was about to say something, but then he sees Wanderer cast what he presumes to be a divination spell. Seeing that, he shuts up instead, and waits for the results of the divination.

“…Zasha! Don’t move and don’t cast! You’re under arrest for demon-worship!”

“Please, there must be some mistake—”

“Don’t try to deny it! You’ve been implicated under truthspell!”

“I only went once, I didn’t know what it was—”

(the sound of a woman’s body hitting the ground, and manacles clicking shut…)

[A scene with no conversation of a workshop being systematically looted of its valuables, as a man in manacles is slumped against one wall]

“You’re under arrest! Don’t move, don’t cast!”

“Plea—”

There’s the sound of flesh hitting flesh, and then a crunching sound.

“I said , don’t fucking cast anything. Now, are you stupid, or were you trying to pull a fast one on me? Everyone knows any words could be the verbal component of a spell…”

“…Hey, that’s mine, you can’t—”

“What’s that? You wanna fight back? I can show you what happens to people who try and fight back, if you want…”

“…Acid Splash! Hail Flauros, lord of dragons! Bow before his—”

(the sound of crossbow bolts hitting flesh)

“Really? That’s what she went with? A fucking cantrip? Ugh, check if she’s breathing…”

“…My humble apologies for the interruption, Lord-Mayor, but I bring urgent news regarding a sensitive matter. May I speak to you briefly in private?”

“Of course, and you need not apologize.” A man turns his head to elsewhere in the room. “Please forgive me for the delay, I will hear your petitions after I attend to this matter…”

“…profits higher than ever.”

“Well, that’s not hard. They get exemptions from all kinds of dues, of course they can turn a tidy profit.”

“…good health, for a man of his age.”

“Of his — he’s not that old.”

“His youngest children are nearly grown! I’d call that old…”

Wanderer will communicate the cult-related information and the topic to Arius, noting that it looks like everything is well-handled.

(alright, are you two going to also head back to the Auberge or do you have other things you want to do first?)

Wanderer steps forward towards the Watch.

“It would seem as though I’ve underestimated your abilities and overestimated your opposition. I’ve divined and saw nothing but successes in your apprehensions of the cult members. My apologies.”

He gives something of a salute.

Arius says to the buff guard: “It appears the other Watchmen faring well. Thank you for letting us join you.” He bows down politely once more.

((I got nothing in mind that Arius can do besides checking up on the abandoned hospital again. We can probably go back to regroup with the others.))

Wanderer will rejoin the group.

does anyone have things they want to do this evening? Various possibilities got floated, but I’m not sure if you decided to actually do them

((…technically, there is enough time to search for these people in the evening. Realistically, however, Arius approaching a jewelry store makes no sense.))

((It also doesn’t make sense for him to go around and ask people: “Hey, do you know where Sacred Warrior Taras is?”))

((So… Yeah, I guess he will regroup at Amelie’s, relay the events that happened in the afternoon, see how they react, and uh… We’ll figure things out from there.))

Wanderer would confer what happened to the group and would chart a route to places of note in Baron Dalin’s territory.

If there are any people there that know about Dalin’s territory, he’d likely ask them various things (as per Gather Information) such as ‘What are the most important settlements?’ ‘Is there anything interesting happening there’

And other some such things.

With the exception of your companions, some of whom are from Dalin’s territory, the people in the Auberge mostly don’t know that much about Dalin’s territory. Still, you’re able to piece together some details from the information they do have.

  • Hazel Ford is larger than any individual settlement in Dalin’s territory, and conveniently located on the river, which is a major trade route. It’s fairly common for people throughout Dalin’s territory to show up at Hazel Ford to trade, even though it’s not actually within their barony.
  • The settlement nearest Dalin’s manor house is a village named Glovewort Valley, though it is not the largest settlement in the barony.
  • The gay merchants that you met previously sometimes purchase wares sourced originally from Dalin’s territory, including particularly sturdy boots from Raven’s Nest and paper and sturgeon jerky from Sturgeon Bounty (the actual largest town in Dalin’s territory, on the river, but somewhat upriver from Hazel Ford). However, they generally only purchase wares in places that are close to or actually on the river (though of course they do sometimes get wares that were originally from further north but have been brought down to the river)
  • Some of the staff at the Auberge have heard complaints from people who had to wait multiple days for an audience with Baron Dalin, while receiving either no explanation, a blatantly pretextual explanation, or a basically legitimate-sounding explanation that the people complaining were still mad about. You’ve heard the same rumor before, but generally from people somewhat less wealthy than the clientele here at the Auberge — apparently his behavior extends to people of means as well.

As you walk into the building, Canary gives you a strange (for her) look.
Inquisitiveness.
And as you all (assumedly) gather to talk it through, a quick look at her would reveal: she looks rather bad compared to when you last saw her. The bottom of her pants seemed to have been recently drenched in water, and the look on her face is one of utter fatigue. Still, as you talk, she listens intently and waits.

As your story finishes, she looks around in confusion, but doesn’t seem to ask any questions, as she begins to steel herself to discuss what she’s learnt.

“………I had. Started to walk around to try and find. Clues. Then I had found- a young boy from a… not really a neighbouring village- farther, shopping alone. Here.”

“So I had. Talked to him, and learnt his father recently attempted to petition Baron… Dalin.”

“So I walked him home.” She doesn’t really linger on this part, trying to undercut you all potentially viewing that as strange.

“And his father, who was working in the fields. Had told me he tried to petitioned him on Oathday, and then. The Baron’s servants asked him to come back on Sunday. Despite the fact the petition was. About a deadly monster attacking their village.”

“And uhm. His manor, the father said, was. Big, white, and a little. Dirty. For a baron. And his servants were scared.”

“But then.” She looks to the side, as if she’s concerned her retelling of the next part would make you all, provided you have any real loyalty to Baron Rodin (whom most of you don’t), judge her. “I went and talked to. Two other people. One said he had potentially petitioned the baron before for. Deerstalkers. On… Erastus. I think. And he listened to that and did it right away, and…”

This part, she gives an indescribable look. “…When I talked to another villager, she said in. 2689. The Baron pensioned off her sister’s family, after her sister died. And he didn’t really know the family. I think that was… before he was actually a baron, I think? He must’ve been young.”

Canary takes a deep breath. She’s not done.
