Wanderer steps out of the caravan and walks over.
“Hail. What seems to be the disturbance?”
Wanderer steps out of the caravan and walks over.
“Hail. What seems to be the disturbance?”
(Dustier guy:) “He said he’d pay us if we helped him with the planting—”
(Less dusty guy:) “—what he’s leaving out is that he’s a lying Rostlander, not that I’d expect some green-ear to know the difference—”
(Dustier guy:) “—I never said I wasn’t, you never asked—”
(Less dusty guy:) “I shouldn’t have to—”
He will take an authoritative tone.
“Each of you will individually tell me what happened.”
He points to the dustier guy.
“You may go first.”
Drakor looked at the less dusty man.
(Studied target → less dusty boi)
He looks down at the ground. “My family had to leave our farm after the trouble happening back home. I went around offering to work for people, helping them plant our farms, and this honorless bastard— ”
“—that is uncalled for, you liar—”
“—took us up on it. But I guess he was listening in on what we were saying to each other, and now he’s trying to kick us out mid-afternoon with no pay, even though we’ve already finished most of what he hired us to do.”
He’s a bit older than the dustier man, with thickly calloused hands. His anger at the dusty man and his family seems entirely genuine — most people would struggle to fake the way his blood is rushing to the surface of his skin, giving his cheeks a reddish tint.
(How many children are there and where are they positioned relative to the two men?)
(Five children, including a baby. Everyone but the baby is standing behind the dusty man (such that the dusty man is positioned between them and the less dusty man); the baby is strapped to the front of the woman who’s probably the dusty man’s wife, in a sling of sorts that leaves her hand free. The child with her hands over her ears is the second-youngest, after the baby; apart from the youngest two, the children look old enough to be more-than-zero helpful with the planting.)

Canary, perhaps after hearing the mention of money, exits out of the back of the caravan and positions herself firmly behind the Wanderer and Drakor, not trying to make herself a prevelent part of the conversation.
(He seems to be telling the truth, although you suspect that he’s leaving out some details about the trouble back home.)
Dogma would indicate that he deserves pay. I would agree with that. Still, can’t hurt to get the other side of the story.
Wanderer looks to the other.
“You may recount next.”
Drakor casually walked along the road, thrn stopped once he was past the dustier man. He looked out into the distance, scanning for something.
“This man shows up a little after dawn and says he and his family are looking for work. I figure, sure, my son’s working his own plot now, my daughter married a boy the next village over, my wife and our other kids have gone to be with Pharasma, and I’m always happy to do a good turn for a hard-working man. Mind you, he’s faking an Issian accent—”
“—I’m not faking anything—”
“—but when I come back to check on their work, which mind you, was pretty shoddy, I hear them mention the village they’re from. And what do you know, they’re from Rostland! I never would have hired them if I’d known the truth, and I’m not giving them one copper bit.”
(are you looking for anything in particular?)
