[RP] Play-By-Post Pathfinder

He starts talking rapidly, with animated facial expressions. “Oh, you’ll love it. It’s as hard as any alloy, but it’s found in the roots of trees that have sucked up the right metals from the ground. There’s no magic to it, but it can repair itself, just like it was a real plant, and if someone hits it in just the wrong way, it can even corrode their weapon.”

[Rules text:

An item made from living steel repairs damage to itself at a rate of 2 hit points per day, or 1 hit point per day if it has the broken condition. Items not primarily of metal are not meaningfully affected by being partially made of living steel.

Armor and shields made from living steel can damage metal weapons that strike them. Whenever the wielder of a metal weapon rolls a natural 1 on an attack roll against a creature wearing living steel armor or wielding a living steel shield, the item must make a DC 20 Fortitude save or gain the broken condition. If the weapon already has the broken condition, it is instead destroyed. Living steel cannot damage adamantine weapons in this way.

(Ah nice. ^_^)

Zelsh was fascinated by what the armorer told him about living steel. “It sounds perfect for Zelsh.”

Then once your breastplate has been fitted to you, he allows you to test out the living steel shield. Besides the properties he already described, it feels a bit easier to handle than your normal shield, and not as likely to impair your movements if you tried to, say, sneak around with it.

[You have acquired: 1 breastplate, 1 masterwork living steel shield. I can update those on your sheet if you want.]

(Please do so and thanks.^_^)

“Thank you and they’re perfect!” Zelsh exclaimed gratefully.

He seems gratified by your enthusiasm. “Always happy to see someone getting good use out of them.”

Meanwhile, the person fitting Drakor for his chain shirt seems to have noticed from the way he dresses and moves that he’d like to preserve the option of stealth, and chosen which chain shirt to fit to him accordingly. The resulting chain shirt is still a few pounds heavier than his studded leather, but no more restrictive on his movements.

[Drakor (@Squirrel 2412) has obtained a masterwork chain shirt (since it is Masterwork, the ACP is reduced by 1, from 2 to 1)]

Drakor nodded his thanks. “By chance, do you have a place where I might store this?” he asked, gesturing to his discarded studded leather armor. “I do not mean to impose - if you would like me to carry it with me that is acceptable as well.”

“If you don’t need it any longer, you’re welcome to leave it here, to be given out to someone else who can make good use of them. But if you’d rather keep it, that’s fine too.”

“This has done me well, but I would be much obliged if you rehomed it.” Drakor glanced wistfully at the battered leather armor, then carefully set it aside. “May it serve them as well as it served me.”

“I’ll make sure its next user can make good use of it.”

All in all, considering the time it took to fit some of you to your armor, it takes a few hours to ensure that all of you have your new equipment. It’s mid-afternoon by the time you finish, so you won’t have enough time to make it to Hazel Ford (if that’s still where you intend to travel next) before nightfall, but you could start to make some progress on the journey.

Before you depart, the baron also outfits you with a letter of authorization signed by him and affixed with his seal (positioned so that it’s on the letter but not keeping it physically shut) explaining that you are adventurers in his employ, to be presented if you need to prove your affiliation (though he reminds you that discretion is very important here, and that he does not wish for your affiliation to be made known to, for example, the other baron that he’s tasked you with investigating). He also orders his stablemaster to restock the supplies of feed for the mules pulling your wagon, and has your mules brushed down by one of his grooms.

(is this, in fact, where you’re headed next)

(one second.)

(did we physically see the baron?)

(you have seen the baron, as in, the baron of the lands you are currently in, whom you ate dinner with last night)

(you have not seen the baron, as in, the baron of the lands Granite Hill is within)

(mhm. if I could…)

“Uhm. Can I ask you a question?” Canary inquiries.

“Of course you may.”

“…What roads of the baron to the east’s are being subjected to poor… maintenance?”

This is an exceedingly odd question for someone who isn’t driving.

“Many of them are unnamed,” he says. “But my understanding is that many of them have fallen into disrepair, particularly in the southern part of his lands.”
