Your route carries you through a marshy area, not swampy enough that people avoid going near it but definitely too swampy to grow any of the common Brevic crops. Under ordinary circumstances, the route people actually travel through would be fairly firm, but thanks to the mud and rain, the wagon and its mules are kind of struggling, moving at about half their usual pace. The rain makes it hard to be certain, but it doesn’t seem like the swamp has anything more unusual than a couple of unusually large lumps of mud.
Drakor (@Squirrel2412) is the first to notice something wrong. As you pass by around twelve or thirteen paces from the mud, he sees a flash of motion in one of the large mud piles. There’s something there, with a rather amphibious look, hiding in wait. Based on how it’s holding itself, it’s clearly spotted you. Now that he’s looking closely, it’s also clear that the mud piles are artificial, not natural, and probably constructed fairly recently.

“There’s something in the mud piles,” Drakor hissed. “Keep your guard up. Weapons out.”
He leapt down off of the caravan, falchion drawn, and began taking a more focused look at the mud.

Paprika stayed right in place, a smile on her face and her feet kicking excitedly. She let her eyes dart around the mud, looking for motion.
