I’m not going to make you roll seven separate bluff checks because that’s just “telling you you fail” with more steps, but I do think I want a separate bluff check from Drakor (@Squirrel2412), since he’s the one who most visibly changed his behavior (by getting out of the wagon)

So many DMs do this for some reason even after I like
Tell them what it means statistically

(q: didn’t drakor shout out that they were here? aren’t they almost human intelligence and. probably have ears.)

(i guess it’s a different language but it’s kinda Their Name in another language)

I think there are circumstances where it can make sense but I do also think that if you’re having people do it, you should… be aware that you’re saying ‘The Thing You Are Doing Is Hard To Have Several People Successfully Do In A Group’, if that makes sense?

As the group continues down the road, a couple of things become apparent. First of all, there is indeed a second boggard, hiding out in the second mud hut. Second of all, they’re fairly well-armed — their armor is just leather, and the morningstars they carry are basically just spiked clubs (not that it’s particularly fun to be hit with a spiked club), but each of them is also carrying a pair of fine javelins with excellent craftsmanship.

One of the boggards is clearly still hoping to ambush you, based on his body language, but the other has picked up on the fact that they’ve been spotted. As you draw close enough to be within easy striking range of the boggards’ javelins, the slightly closer one croaks out a demand in Boggard (the language of the boggards).

(How would I go about interpreting this without the language? Sense motive?)

(You can use Sense Motive at an elevated DC to get a very general gist, though obviously many of the specific details will be lost in translation. If they’re literate and you can get them to write their message down you could technically also use Linguistics. There are Various Alternatives enabled by feats.)

From their tone of voice, you have the fairly confident impression that this is some kind of threat. Based on the way their bulging, toad-like eyes keep swiveling to look at the exit routes out of the swamp, you’d guessing that it’s more the “do something we want and we’ll let you leave” kind of threat, rather than the “get the fuck out of here right now” kind of threat. The obvious guess from there is that they’re attempting to rob you, but you’re much less confident in that — that aspect of your impression is more influenced by general patterns of what people pointing weapons at travelers tend to want, rather than by anything specific about these boggards in particular.
