(what if it’s four halfings and two are stacked ontop of eachother and the spell is actually an elaborate form of alter self…)

“I see… Thank you for indulging in my question.”

What now? Arius thinks to himself. He looks at Wanderer, the one who brought them all here, but he seems to be lost in thought ((i.e., AFK)) as well.

Slowly, a thought begins to rise, which the Magus expresses to the guardsmen. “Say, when were the bloody cult symbols found again?”

((Aye. I just had to give an example, but couldn’t come up with things like Bless, so I had to improvise.))

(Now I don’t know about you but I think Rika would find one of these two groups more interesting and it’s not the cellar. Well! Sucks to be her.)

Paprika hears the voices of Arius, Drakor, and Wanderer coming from beneath her feet: a cellar door is open and there’s clearly some kind of gathering inside. She peeks around the corner and enters, spotting two watchmen talking about magic… the first thing she does, of course, is to cast Detect Magic.

The kid has a strong tendency to spend a lot of time comparing prices to make absolutely sure that he’s getting the best deal. This would be a perfectly fine and reasonable tendency on his own, except that his mathematical knowledge is clearly not up to the task of calculating per-unit prices by dividing the total price by the number of items, so he frequently takes a very long time to actually work out each comparison.

oh! sorry, I saw “rest of the party” and assumed you wanted the group with lots of people rather than the group with one (1) person

…If I push it by correcting him he might… decide I’m too annoying to take on a trip back.

So I… wait.

“Did anyone enter or exist the basement since the symbol was discovered?” Drakor asked.

There’s magic! Apart from the expected magic associated with your and your companions’ items, you also spot three other auras: an identical aura on each of the two members of the Watch, and a conical aura emanating from Arius. You may make a K(Arcana) check to identify the school of magic associated with each of them.

“Sure, whichever cultist picked the lock,” says the older member of the Watch unhelpfully.

“They cordoned off the scene as soon as it was reported to us,” says the younger member of the Watch.

Eventually, the kid finally acquires the last item he had been sent to purchase (some arrows to replace the ones used in the fight against the Unspecified Monster), and is finally ready to leave.

Do you plan to tell your companions where you’re going, or are you just leaving on your own?

(No that is what I meant)

((Ping.))

I… don’t really. Want to bother them. If it’s just walking. And a few questions. I can do it myself.

(oops, sorry, I missed that! thanks for bumping)

“We got the tip last… Sunday, I believe,” says the older watchman.

“That sounds right to me,” says the younger one.

In that case, you are able to identify not just the associated schools, but the specific associated spells! The spell emanating from Arius is Detect Magic, of the Divination school, and the spells attached to the Watchmen are Blessing of the Watch, of the Enchantment school.

“We’ve gotta cross the river first,” he informs you. “Hope you don’t mind getting wet!”

(From his tone, you get the sense that he would actually think it was incredibly funny if you minded having to wade through the shallow part of the ford.)

“Isn’t that a bit dangerous,” says the shopkeeper he most recently purchased from, “since we’ve been having all this rain—”

The kid shrugs. “I crossed earlier and it was fine.”

“…”

Oh. I should probably respond. To the kid. “I don’t!” Another one of my uneasy fake smiles comes out. I really dislike having to do that.
