“Has there been any pressure from up high to solve this case?” Drakor asked.
“Not more than usual, I don’t think.”
Drakor frowned. So much for that theory. If only Shir was here… but then again, she would probably point out all the ‘glaringly obvious’ clues that ‘were pretty self-explanatory’ instead of actually explaining them.
“Do you talk much outside of work?” Drakor asked. “You and… er, what’s his name? Actually, wait, what’s your name?”
“I’m Valtyr and he’s Rafau. We go drinking together after work sometimes when we get off at the same time, and one time we went to see a swimming race together.”
“Drakor.” He extended a hand to Valtyr. “Did Rafau seem off to you before today?”
He takes your hand, though his handshake is rather limp.
At your question, he shakes his head. “If he were always like this, I wouldn’t think it was weird. It started after we met you guys.”
Drakor nodded. “Hm. Well, you know him better than I do. Make sure he’s doing okay, alright?”
He glanced at the tracks on the ground. “I’m going to try to follow these, if you don’t mind. Could you inform the others?”
“Uh, sure.”
He goes back inside.
Inside people: You see the younger watchman return!
“Drakor says he’s going to follow the tracks outside the building,” he says. “Uh, the half-orc with the mask.”
The older watchman pales slightly. “One of us had better supervise,” he says. “To make sure he doesn’t destroy any evidence. How about you guard the scene, and I’ll accompany him?”
“Fine by me,” says the younger one.

Paprika looks impatient as Wanderer speaks, though she doesn’t speak up. Once he has finished speaking, she closes her eyes for a bit, looking pensive.
“This latest wave of newcomers is extremely recent,” she says, opening her eyes. “After the cellar was discovered. They didn’t come over just now.”
“Zelsh will come with in case Drakor meets trouble.” Zelsh commented as he left the room. although it was more because he wanted something to do where his abilities might come in handy.
Once the two of them are out of the door, Paprika turns to the older guard with a mischievous smile. “So, just us again. You seem nervous.”
(Misread who left)
“I suppose…” He doesn’t seem convinced that this fact meaningfully changes what the correct approach is.
Wanderer will check the room for anything else of note before leaving.

“The relevant part of your theory reads as follows: the criminal knew about Flauros because they were from a place once ruled by House Rogarvia.” Paprika flicked her head dismissively. “That’s everybody here, if you haven’t forgotten. Once the time of displacement has been dis-established, you have basically nothing.”
“I don’t contest that the cult may be associated with Rogarvia. They deal with red dragons. The cult of Flauros deals with red dragons. I don’t think that purely being a refugee from war would incite demon-worship: demon-worship is for people whose desires are impure or absurd.”
“Here’s a theory: the cult wishes to bring back House Rogarvia. Here’s a theory: the cult is not genuine and simply wishes to distract the Watch. Here’s a theory: the noblewoman with the tiefling child from the news came over here and painted it. She’s a high-level mage who can teleport. Here’s a theory: our older guard over here painted the symbol to give himself an excuse to go on a cult-hunt.”
Paprika snorted. “Without going around knocking on doors, we’re not going to find a culprit without either a lucky strong lead or some extra information from Guard 1 over there.”
Wanderer rolls his eyes.
