<Really?> Drakor asked in Orcish.

He snorts.

ā€œSure.ā€

He stands up and looks at you.

ā€œWe’re looking into Baron Dalin, trying to figure out the ā€˜dark secret’ he’s supposedly hiding. We’re headed to Hazel Ford first to get some insight into a hunch I have regarding the south.ā€

He gives a slight smile before switching his tone to a more serious one.

ā€œYou can do more than speak multiple languages. I won’t pry further, but I imagine that we will encounter situations that will call for the use of those…abilities.ā€

ā€œ<Fuck off>,ā€ Paprika replied in Kelish.

Drakor shrugged, happily not understanding a word.

ā€œWell, that kind of investigation does seem like my specialty.ā€ Paprika pretended she didn’t hear that last comment, though she evidently twitched a bit. Sore subject, it seems.

(Uhh knowledge (local) check to see if she can flex anything re: Dalin?)

(I’m not sure I’d call Rika the greatest face in the world given her tendencies, but, y’know, Wanderer balances her out)

Baron Dalin rules the lands to the east of here. Most people in Talloak don’t care especially much about some baron who isn’t even their baron and hasn’t (so far as they know) particularly caused problems for them , but you’ve heard some gossip from passing travelers from his own lands — about a year and a half ago (i.e., in 4702), he was supposed to be presiding over a Harvest Feast celebration in his own barony, but he scandalously abandoned the festivities partway through with no explanation, and then refused to even make an appearance to apologize.

(This was a few short months after his father’s death, and the gossiping travelers absolutely did not hesitate to speculate about this, whether that meant complaining about how his father would never have done anything like this, or criticizing his father for having kept such a tight hold on him that he never learned proper decorum, or speculating that maybe he had been driven to such lengths by grief.)

ā€œOf course, I haven’t had any particular reason to dig up that guy’sā€œ — she refers to a baron as ā€˜that guy’ — ā€œdirt to date, but there’s obviously been something suspicious going on since he took his father’s position. You hear of it even outside his territory. He lacks decorumā€ — she’s quoting somebody exactly — ā€œand vanishes from celebrations.ā€

Paprika readjusts her grip on her rolls of fabric. They look rather expensive to be holding above the dirt like this.

ā€œAllow me to set these down at my home. I shall meet you at the tavern afterward.ā€

She rotates 180^{\circ} on her heels and leaves.

ā€œOf course.ā€

Is this how I sound to people?

Once she leaves, Wanderer will once again cast Enhanced Diplomacy into Ears of the City.
